Moody

Moody is two stories wearing one name. The first began at a repair yard in Swanwick founded by John Moody in 1827, and ran through three decades with Marine Projects of Plymouth — 39 models, 4,233 boats, and a name that meant sensible British cruising. The family sold in 2005; the Plymouth lines fell silent a year later.

The second story began in 2007, when Germany's HanseYachts bought the brand, kept Bill Dixon — the designer already drawing Moodys in the Plymouth years — and started again from a clean sheet in Greifswald. Its signature became the Decksaloon line: cockpit and saloon on one level behind wraparound glass, a catamaran's way of living transplanted into a monohull. Whether that makes them "real" Moodys is an argument the owners' community still enjoys; that they are the boldest thing the brand ever built is harder to dispute.
