1998–2005 (Dufour 41 Classic / early 44 Performance Gen 1)
Hulls from this period use solid fibreglass below with balsa-cored decks; core moisture intrusion at deck hardware bedding is a standard survey item. Standing rigging on any boat of this age will be at or beyond service life and should be budgeted for replacement. The spade rudder with self-aligning bearings fitted to the Dufour 41 Classic is prone to play and the steering system must be inspected thoroughly. On the Dufour 44 Performance Gen 1, osmosis risk on early GRP is noted and an osmosis survey is required.
2006–2015 (Dufour 44 Performance Gen 2 / Grand Large)
The swept-back spreader rig on 2006–2009 Dufour 44 Performance hulls is prone to shroud-chainplate fatigue; standing rigging replacement is often overdue on boats in this bracket, with 20-year-old wire common. Teak decks on these boats frequently show delamination and may already have been replaced. The 2010–2015 Grand Large era hull-to-deck joint is a known stress-cracking area, and keel bolt condition should be checked on survey. Dufour was founded in La Rochelle, France in 1964 and has built production sailing yachts there continuously since. The yard operates independently and works with Italian studio Felci Yacht Design on hull and interior development.
